Narrative Medicine Case Competition 2024 Recap
At the Second Annual Narrative Medicine Case Competition (NMCC 2024), hosted by UBC Humanities in Healthcare, healthcare professionals and students gathered to explore the intersection of storytelling and healthcare.
We invite you to learn more about the inspiring happenings of this two-day event through the following NMCC recap articles. Click the links below to dive into the eye opening keynote, presentations, and workshops of the NMCC.
Overall, the NMCC exposed students to the importance of drawing out the patient narrative when taking a patient-centered approach to medicine. For most, if not all the participants, this was the first time they came across the concept of narrative medicine. All teams did an excellent job of exploring Mrs. A’s narrative and using it to develop some innovative solutions to complex issues in postpartum and patient care as a whole. It was such a pleasure to hear the rich discussions among participants and mentors who shared their insights on the complexity of the healthcare system and the importance of patient engagement in planning for the future.
UBC Humanities in Healthcare is incredibly grateful to all the participants, mentors, judges, and speakers who volunteered their time and passion for patient-centered care over the Easter long weekend. We hope this event sparked greater interest in the potential for narrative medicine to bring about meaningful change in the way we approach patient care.
